HOOK 49 pamaya red Ever wonder how to prevent hair loss? At Pamaya Red Salon, the master hair team of Rob, Aleida and Iala studied exactly that. After over 20 years in the Piermont community, the salon offers not only haircuts, colors, and treatments, but also hair health guidance imbued with the teachings of trichology. Trichology, according to the salon's new website, is the study of the hair and scalp to identify underlying causes of weakened hair health. Tri- chology-informed hair care might be novel to most clients, but is actually hundreds of years old in origin. The team first learned about trichol- ogy back in 2018, and today each of the salon's master professionals are trichology certified and combine analysis, targeted treatments, and personalized care plans to support healthier hair growth in their clientele. Aleida, a certified trichologist and ad- vanced scalp specialist, provides "hands-on" personalized solutions, starting with a consultation in the salon's brand new treatment center, The Clinic. The consultation includes an overview of a client's medical his- tory and the use of a scope to evalu- ate their scalp and hair health. Then she identifies the sources of the hair loss and builds a treatment plan. These days, through trichology stud- ies, the idea that that hair loss is all up to genetics is long past. Research Pamaya Red Salon Text by Taleen Postian Photography by Andrea B. Swenson has shown that stress hormones play a role in regulating hair follicle stem cells and hair growth. Hair colorist Iala divulges, "Your hair is definitely an extension of your lifestyle and whatever else is going on in your body. If you're not healthy and things are crazy in your life, your hair is probably not going to be top shape either." What you eat, your stress levels, how much you sleep, what you do to your hair and genetics all fac- tor. Treatment plans can include changes to diet and lifestyle, taking vitamins, hair follicle treat- ments, and medical-grade laser sessions. Still, Rob and Aleida are upfront with their clients for whom treatment may not provide relief: "We are willing to give up business to be more real." But hair treatment at the salon is not all clinical. Aleida shared that she understands the emotions her Clinic clients are feeling as someone who dealt with hair loss as a cancer patient. She underwent chemotherapy using a cold cap to combat hair loss and learned to really "baby" her hair. Aleida shared that she hopes clients "understand that I'm really focusing on helping them with their hair and keeping it strong." Iala emphasized the reward present in helping clients address their concerns and insecurities, "it's awesome to see someone get their confidence back." Trichology doesn't end at scalp health; it also impacts the hair styles people can get. Iala explained, "a healthy scalp is a good base for healthy hair color, the healthier your scalp and hair is, the better your hair color will look. You can get more longevity out of your color if your hair and scalp are in their best shape they can be in." Bringing Health To Hair
