HOOK 13
So back to that book, Album of Horses. Are horses color
blind? No, but like dogs and cats, they see mainly yellow and
blue. They have an addi4onal type of color blindness that
some humans also have—red colors o%en appear to the
horse as yellow or even greenish. This is why the signs and
fences in many training areas for jumping will have blue to
enable the horse to accurately assess distance and height.
And your delight to find the brightest red apple may im-
press you, but not your horse. He'll love you for the delicious
greenish treat he's contentedly munching.
