ors, especially the darker ones and effec4vely lump
them together as "dark" or "not bright". For example,
the ancient Greeks had no name for the color blue
though today there is μπλε and a whole list of blue
varia4ons like azure, turquoise, indigo and so on.
Today, the field of color psychology studies colors'
effects on our moods. Yellow, although op4mis4c and
happy the way the sun outdoors makes us feel, TOO
MUCH yellow can create agita4on and higher blood
pressure. This is why infant nurseries and public
queue areas (like a post office with long lines of cus-
tomers) avoid pain4ng walls a strong yellow color.
Blue, the color of calm sunny sky and water, is peace-
ful in mood. Bedrooms o%en use a pale sky blue as
part of their décor to promote a soothing safe feeling
for healthy sleep.
