Compost is o&en referred to as gardener's gold or black
gold, and rightly so. Good compos5ng is worth its weight in
vegetables and then some. A natural and easy way is to
cradle the tree bases with all the leaves that fall, like a cozy
blanket so when it is heaped over with snow for months in
the winter, the leaves naturally turned into clean com-
post— no smoking piles needing pitchforks to turn — we
let the lawn mowers chop the grass and leave it in place,
never raking that natural compost away. DIY you know your
soil and know where it comes from (not packaged in heavy
plas5c with a list of ingredients). And, happily there are
websites and books to resource for home environments.
