CM: Where were you at Woodstock in 1969 when you wit-
nessed Soul Sacrifice?
DAVID: I was with bandmates... we saw Carlos Santana as we
came up and over the hill as I se4led into the middle of the
infield. Of course, it was what I saw, 500,000 people in awe,
but it was what we heard, Carlos playing "Soul Sacrifice." A
searing extended solo stretched taut. Over explosive La3n
polyrhythms, ending with an electrifying drum solo by a then
16 year old drummer Michael Shrieve.
CM: David was exhilarated by the whole experience at
Woodstock, and Santana's great performance. Li4le did he
know he would be playing with him 55 years later. David was
