called Chance opera5ons. Here the ar5st creates by
le7ng chance produce new pa6erns that would not
have been conceived by the conscious mind. the
composer John Cage threw dice; Bill invented "Bird
Space" as different from "Human Space" from the
chance migra5ons and soaring of hundreds of birds
during his yearlong landscape pain5ng by the Hud-
son. "My future plans come out of some commis-
sions I've been receiving, where people have been
interested in having their view, their par5cular land-
scape painted. I can study these crea5ons as my
"chance opera5ons", my opportunity to do some-
thing not derived from my own environment. In
seeking more of this sort of commission, this can be
my own contribu5on to the study of how we pro-
fessional modern ar5sts express life."
