college
friends
in
New
York
City,
I
got
in
my
car
and
drove
off
from
my
hometown
of
Rochester,
NY,
heading
south
on
the
highway.
Accom-
panying
my
eagerness
to
see
my
friends
was
the
joy
of
driving
through
the
state
to
get
there.
Even
more,
thinking
about
the
superla4ve
outdoor
recrea4on,
from
water
ac4vity
on
rivers
and
lakes,
to
backpacking
or
skiing
through
hills
and
mountains.
Driving
south,
I
think
back
to
some
of
my
first
solo
trips
snowshoeing
next
to
frozen
waterfalls
at
Letchworth
State
Park,
the
"Grand
Canyon
of
the
East."
