breath, rhythm, touch, safety, and connec2on not as extras, but as essen2als. Our world of- fers endless s2mula2on and very li3le space to process it. Children, especially, take so much in without always having a way to release it. What they need most is o#en simple, like movement, presence, rhythm, and connec2on. As a yoga teacher, I began naturally weaving small moments of movement and breathing into our daily rhythm—not formal poses nor structured sequences, but simple ways of re- turning to the body. Yoga, at its heart, is the prac2ce of coming back to the present mo- ment through breath and awareness. Some mornings we stretched together before school. Other 2mes we took a few slow breaths si4ng on the floor or rested in a child's pose at the end of the day. On days when energy felt stuck or heavy, we shook our arms, bounced in place, or moved up and down to wake the body gently. These moments weren't about ex- ercise or discipline. They were about listening and responding with care. There were a#ernoons when our home felt heavy with frustra2on, disappointment, impa- 2ence, and worry layered together. On those days, instead of trying to talk everything through, I turned to music and movement. Some2mes I put on a favorite song. Some2mes I pick up my guitar and we dance in the kitchen, we sway in the living room, and laugh. We let movement say what words couldn't. What amazed me was how quickly connec2on returned when the body was given space to re- lease what it had been holding. Children don't always need explana2ons — they need outlets, they need the freedom to know they can move and feel. Healing o#en begins not in the mind, but in the body. What I was witnessing was so- ma2c healing, which is the body's natural abil- ity to process stress through movement and sensa2on. When we stretch, twist, shake, breathe deeply, or sway, we support the nerv- ous system in comple2ng stress cycles. Gentle movement also supports the lympha2c system, which relies on breath and muscle movement to circulate and clear waste from the body. Children do this ins2nc2vely.
