32 HOOK Beer . Food . Community . Disc Golf in Warwick, NY The Fence Road Farm Brewery and The Oasis At Warwick is an example of a "third space," as defined by sociologist Ray Oldenberg. A "third space" is a des- igna3on where people can go from home (the first space) and work (the second) to gather, enjoy company, and have fun. This extraordinary property is an environment where agriculture, cra$ beer, a round of disc golf, good food and good cheer, all combine to provide many levels of nourishment. Addi3on- ally it offers a beau3ful 2800 square foot event space for weddings, live music, line dancing, game nights, re- unions, and more. Hudson Valley local Dan Doyle, the owner of The Oasis, purchased the 47 acre property in 2011. "It was a pre4y simple concept," he says. "Find a piece of property where I could design an 18 hole disc golf course, and people could come eat and drink." Doyle, who is no stranger to designing disc golf courses, had the course at The Oasis completed within six months of own- ing the property, with its opening to the public at the beginning of 2012. Since then, the property has evolved, most notably with the addi3on of the 17,500 square foot Fence Road Farm Brewery, an event space, and a disc golf pro shop. "I like the idea of throwing discs," he says. "In our sport, when you hit the basket chains, it makes a nice sound, and there's some instant gra3- fica3on when you do that. I also love watching a disc glide a$er a throw. It touches me on many levels." Doyle's background is largely in disc golf, and began when he witnessed two guys, Irv Kalb and Dan "Stork" Roddick, both pioneers in disc sports, tossing a frisbee.
