A very friendly black, medium-sized dog
bounds
up to me as I lean down to open the
gate latch to enter Hudson Paws' second-floor
office space. The puppy races around the
room, up onto the comfy sofa and back down
to run around the coffee table and sniff the
coat hanging on the hook behind one of the
two desks, only to wind around the legs of the
Execu3ve Director and Managing Director of
Hudson Paws Dog Rescue, Sarah Shaw and
Erin Reck. This adorable dog is a rescue, expe-
riencing "puppy's first living room," but li4le
does it know that Hudson Paws was a rescue
in and of itself.
Located in Hudson, NY, just off the Taconic,
the building Hudson Paws Dog Rescue now in-
habits was originally a dog breeding facility
for labradoodles. When Sarah moved to Hud-
son from California in 2021, she had already
