C ew York's Route 17 has long been the road to retreat for many seeking solace from the city. A scenic ride with windows down, under a back- drop of sundrenched mountains and sparkling streams is enough to get the reset and recharge bu5on going. But hopping off at exit 97 soon re- veals Livingston Manor's downtown that's do5ed with a blend of up- state, albeit urban, style shops, cafes, and general store vibe markets. Winding through town and down the eponymous road to The DeBruce Hotel, guests get a glimpse of Catskill life in its raw and real form. From the nostalgic aroma of campfires to the free-range chickens roaming to the hay that's being har- vested, the land and its bounty is part of The DeBruce ex- perience. "There's no Eiffel Tower here," jests The DeBruce's In- terim General Manager Anastasija Ochere4na. "Bonfires and s'mores are the draw." And it's this back-to-basics ap- proach that husband-and-wife owners Sims Foster and Kirsten Harlow Foster have taken with the Foster Supply Hospitality brand and its proper4es. With the Foster fam- ily having been in Livingston Manor for five genera4ons that date back to the early 1900s, the roots run deep in commitment to the community, most importantly in sup- por4ng the local farms and helping to get that farm fresh food to the public.
