HOOK 51 Go On A "Wander Walk" Take a walk with no destination. Let your child choose the direction. Follow a squirrel. Sit on a curb. Notice the world together. Do One Thing Slowly Wash dishes together. Water the garden. Fold laundry with music on. The goal isn't the task; it's being present in the moment. Name the Magic When It Happens Say It Out Loud: "This is one of those soft, in- between moments, huh?" It helps everyone begin to notice and treasure them. Leave Room In The Schedule Resist the urge to fill every hour. Start with one afternoon or morning a week where nothing is planned. Let the day unfold. Start A Family Game Or Story That Never Ends Create an ongoing game or silly story you add to when- ever you have time at dinner, in the car, before bed. Have A No-Tech Hour Turn off all screens, yours too. Light a candle. Draw. Make shadow puppets. Tell stories from your childhood. Lie On The Floor Together Literally. It sounds silly, but there's some- thing disarming about stopping every- thing, getting on the floor, and just being eye-to-eye. Let your kids lead what happens next. Trust That Less Really Is More Even five minutes of connection, laughter, or silliness with- out an agenda can leave a lasting imprint. Start small. SIMPLE WAYS To Invite Unstructured Joy Into Your Family's Days Make Bored Okay When your child says they're bored, try saying, "Good. That's when the best ideas start." Then wait. Resist the urge to fix it for them.
