Rockefeller State Park Preserve — Among the many events and activities here are a listing of few highlights. In JULY: Monarch Habitat Hike, Sunday, July 28. Explore the habitat of monarch butterflies with Shayla and Hailey on a family-friendly hike at Rockwood Hall. Learn about the monarch's life cycle and their incredible transcontinental migration. The hike will be about 2 miles with frequent stops for discussion. The parking lot is on Kendal Way off route 117. For location visit www.nyn- jtc.org. In AUGUST: The Nature of Wood- working, Sunday, August 4 from 10 am – 1 pm. Rain date: August 11. Learn how trees are transformed into everyday tools and functional art in this workshop with artist and wood- worker, Mark Andreas. We will begin by explor- ing the forest to better understand the qualities and uses of individual tree species. Mark will then demonstrate how to work with hand tools such as a chisel, gouge, hand saw, and hatchet as he fashions a wooden spoon from raw material collected at the Preserve. Firefly Walk, Friday, August 9 from 7:30 – 9:30 pm. The fireflies are out en masse and they put on a spectacular show this time of year. We'll set out just before sunset and meander through open meadows as the fireflies awaken from their slumber and begin to display their love language. The hike will be about 2 miles, leashed dogs are wel- come. In SEPTEMBER: Equinox Cele- bration: Forest Bathing & Sound Healing, Saturday, September 21 from 10 am – 12:30 pm. Celebrate the autumnal equinox during this special event co- hosted by certified forest therapist, Cindy Olsen, and sound healer, Dayna Gralla. Enjoy a mindful stroll in the woods and connect with nature through sensory ex- ploration. This journey will lead you to the Glacial Erratic for a restorative sound healing experience where crystal singing bowls, chimes, and a variety of soothing instruments will guide your meditation. Finish with herbal tea under the trees as you take a moment to reflect. The walk is about 1 mile round trip. Sunset Yoga at Rockwood throughout September on Tuesdays from 6–7 pm. Relieve stress and explore the connection between breath and movement with instructor, Shivani Singh, as the sun sets over the Hudson with views of the Tappan Zee Bridge. Appropriate for all levels of experi- ence, ages 18+. June— September, 26th, fantastically decorated bulldogs representing Irvington's beloved mascot will be displayed on the town's Main Street. The bulldogs were painted by artists in the Lower Hudson Valley and were inspired by everything from architecture to board games and locally produced food. These statues can be seen on foot or by car and provide a great oppor- tunity to explore Irvington's fabulous restaurants, cafes, shops, parks, and other attractions. The town offers free parking.
